Aoi is the only daughter of the owner of the Sakuraba Dry Goods Store (later renamed to Sakuraba Department Store). There was, however, a person who loved Kaoru so much that she felt had to do whatever was necessary to be with him. Day by day he felt alone, thinking that he was living life with no reason pushing him on.
However, Kaoru never felt at home in the Hanabishi family and exiled himself after his mother's death. After that, Yūji's father, Gen'ichiro Hanabishi, took Kaoru under his wing and began educating him for the eventual succession. Kaoru's father died when he was five years old. His mother, Kumi Honjō, and his father never married, making life difficult for both him and his mother. Kaoru Hanabishi, a university student, is the eldest son of Yūji Hanabishi, the head of the Hanabishi Zaibatsu, and was set to take over the zaibatsu after his father retired. Four visual novels were also released for the PlayStation 2 and Windows 98. The anime was released in North America by Geneon and the manga was released in English by Tokyopop. There are 37 episodes total, counting an alternate-continuity Christmas special. A second season titled Ai Yori Aoshi: Enishi ( 藍より青し ～縁～) was set two years later and aired in 2003.

It is a love story between two characters who have not seen each other in years, but were once childhood friends.Īn anime television series adaptation was animated by J.C.Staff and directed by Masami Shimoda, with Kenichi Kanemaki handling series composition, Kazunori Iwakura designing the characters and Toshio Masuda composing the music. The manga was serialized in Hakusensha's Young Animal magazine from 1998 to 2005 and the chapters collected into 17 tankōbon volumes. After accepting Kaoru, she adds the honorific "- dono" after his name (translated as "Sir Kaoru").Ai Yori Aoshi ( 藍より青し, "Bluer Than Indigo") is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Kou Fumizuki. She has great respect for Aoi, and shows this by adding the honorific "- sama" after her name (in the English dub, this is translated as "Lady Aoi"). Miyabi is also somewhat humbled in the episode where Tina is introduced courtesy of losing in a drinking game with her. When she finally met him, however, he was little more than an ordinary college student who lived in a small apartment and couldn't begin to guess what Aoi saw in him. Eventually, she admits to Kaoru that her initial disdain of him stemmed from deep disappointment Kaoru was on Aoi's mind almost all the time when she was growing up, and therefore her expectations of him ended up being set extremely high. After she learned the truth from both Kaoru and Aoi, Miyabi accepted Kaoru's reason for leaving the family. However, as the series progresses, she learns to accept him because of his kind personality and the true devotion that he and Aoi have for each other. She disapproves of his relationship with Aoi, now that he has severed ties with the Hanabishi, and tries to keep him away from her. Initially, she dislikes Kaoru and all of his friends. Given her role as Aoi's caretaker, Miyabi has developed a close bond with Aoi. Aoi later explains that the ferret could sense the kindheartedness within Miyabi's samurai-like demeanor.

However, when Uzume was in danger of dying from being crushed by a gigantic heirloom pendulum clock, all her initial dislike of the animal disappeared and she raced to find a crowbar which she then used to free Uzume, which later became more attached to her than to Tina. She is deeply devoted to Aoi's family as her parents took Miyabi in after her own parents passed away.ĭespite her tough attitude, Miyabi has a paralyzing fear of small animals, including, initially, Tina's pet ferret Uzume.
However, she shows various signs of being a very deeply compassionate person although the impression is given that she is a tough-as-nails workaholic.
Miyabi is generally very strict and enforces the rules of the Sakuraba summer house as the manager. Flashbacks show that she had shorter hair when she was younger. Miyabi is a youngish-looking woman who stands at a few inches taller than Kaoru. She is voiced by Akiko Hiramatsu in the Japanese version of the anime and Lia Sargent in the English version, the latter of whom also voices Milly Thompson and R. Initially, she disapproves of Kaoru Hanabishi but warms up to him over the series.
She is also a manager of a department store owned by the Sakuraba family. She spent most of her life looking after Aoi and helping in her uprising, and serves as the manager of the Sakuraba summer house. She is a talented businesswoman and Aoi Sakuraba's appointed guardian and caretaker. Miyabi Kagurazaki is a supporting character in the anime/manga series Ai Yori Aoshi.
